Ask.com Maps & Directions

Ask.com may not be the No. 1 search engine out there, but it's been
doing some interesting things with new Web technologies, including its
mapping services. Ask.com Maps and Directions allows users to search and
get directions in any city really quickly. What separates it from some
other directions services is its capability to give you directions for
both driving and walking. It works mostly for short hauls (obviously)
and gives you turn-by-turn directions for getting around city blocks on
foot. If you've ever been following a road map in the city and come
across a thoroughfare that wasn't pedestrian friendly, you'll see the
value here.

Zooomr | No Limit Photo Sharing

Zooomr is a next generation universal photo sharing site.  The site was started in late 2005 by Kristopher Tate originally as a place for him to share photos with his friends in Japan.  Since most other photo sites were only in English Kristopher decided to build a site that could be viewed in both English and Japanese.

Can I mark a photo private if I don't want people to see it?

Yes.  On the main photo page there is an icon of a little lock on the right hand side of the page.  Click on that icon and you can designate who may see one of your photos.  It can be for everyone to see, just for you, only for your friends and family, or only for your contacts.

Photobucket. Where millions manage their media.

Upload all your photos, videos, and images to Photobucket for free. Make slideshows and remixes. Link your media to your social network profile, auction sites, web sites and blogs. Share by email, IM, or mobile phone.

How do I allow friends & family to view my album?

You can assign a 'read-only' password in the Friend's Password section of the 'edit my album settings' section of your Account Options. Content in a Private Photobucket account with a Friend's password assigned will only be available to viewers who have the Friend's password.

Once you have the password assigned, you can provide the URL for your album along with the password to those people that you wish to give access to. The 'Share Album' feature will automatically fill this information into an email message for you.

As for organizing photos, you will be pleased with the way you can rule over any their number - just the way you want. It is possible to rotate and flip photos and decorate them with borders, to assign titles and descriptions to pictures and albums. Even when hundreds of photos are put into hundreds of albums in the subfolders inside the folders (just the same way as on your computer), a tree of the structure you create does not take much room on the screen and makes navigation pretty easy.

Neither number of folder and subfolder levels nor the space you can take is limited. Your friends and relatives will be impressed with neat and elegant look of your photos and easiness of finding the desired ones, no matter how huge your collection is.

With Fotki, photo sharing is convenient and safe. You may choose between different levels of protection and sharing.

The photos of your Private Home are visible to you only. To make any album or folder of your Public Home available to no one but the people you choose you may use various passwords. Only those to whom you give your URL and corresponding password can access a password-protected item. On the contrary, to make so that even those who don't know you could find your pictures among their unimaginable multitude at Fotki when searching for a specific subject or theme, you may mark your photos, albums and folders with keywords.

What are the best 100 Web 2.0 sites and services? We don't know. But you do.

These are the best Web applications there are. We know because you told us.

Over the course of 20 days in May and June, the community of Webware.com users voted for its favorite Web applications. These are the results: the top 100 Web apps, 10 in each of 10 categories, determined by Webware readers and the fans of the sites that made the final cut.

There were more than 5,000 nominations for sites to be included in this awards program, which Webware's editors pruned to a list of 250 finalists. Users then voted on those finalists--there were 489,467 votes cast--to come up with these: The top 100 Webware sites for 2007.

HillaryClinton.com - Our Campaign Song

http://www.hillaryclinton.com/feature/song/

Hillary Clinton asked her supporters to help her decide on her campaign song, and boy-oh-boy did they choose a doozy. To encourage people to vote, Hillary and Bill Clinton starred in a clever video spoof of the final scene of The Sopranos, and I guess it sort of worked. It worked in the sense that it helped Hillary gain more exposure and possibly a few more supporters. However. Hillary's supporters chose a f***ing CELINE DION SONG for her campaign theme.

Celine Dion's *inspirational* song "You and I" will now be heard God knows how many freakin' times, and I have the horrific image of Hilary and Celine tearfully singing along together in front of a softly waving American flag. Compared to Bill's winning choice of "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow" or even Dubbya's "I Won't Back Down", this song hardly has any campaign relevance. It's CELINE DION!

Tell us what you think

The first woman in history who could really, seriously be President of the United States - and the soundtrack to her campaign will be Celine's whispery vibrato, letting us know that: "High above the mountains, far across the sea, I can hear your voice calling out to me."

What do you think?

Yay: It's fitting to have a female singer sing the theme to Hillary's campaign. It's a beautiful, inspiring song!

Nay: It's embarrassing and crap.

People underestimate the Power of Celine Dion! Good for her. Once again, she can shut those idiots always complaining about her because she's successful. Finally a great singer who doesn't need to show flesh to be a success! I prefer that over the little skimpy-skirted American girls a la Britney, Whoriah, etc.

Posted by: She Did it Again | June 20, 2007 1:40 PM

I love Celine Dion.
"You and I" is a good choice.

Dailymotion

Dailymotion is a video sharing website. The site is based in Paris, France, its domain registered one month after Youtube (but the site opened one month earlier) with gandi.net, a French internet domain name provider, and at least one name server is based in France with the .fr name extension.

As of November 2006, the site was getting about 9,000 new videos posted daily, and page views in excess of 16 million per day[1]. As of April 2007, Dailymotion had a global Alexa ranking of 73[2].

Dailymotion allows users to browse videos by searching tags, channels or user-created groups; the search system also introduces results based on things other users have searched for. The maximum size of video per file is 150 MB (compared to 100 MB for YouTube) and videos should be no longer than 20 minutes (compared to 10 minutes for YouTube), with the exception of using MotionMaker, which is similar to YouTube's director accounts, but, there is unlimited file size and no time limit.

Four Eyed Monsters » Blog Archive » Watch our entire indie film for free

Our film has received 525,960 views in 11 days on YouTube. The film will be on YouTube for the next 57 days so spread the word.

Qwipster-dot-net's in Santa Barbara, CA posted the following comment about our film:

Four-Eyed Monsters is fascinating for a unique depiction of a new type of courtship, effectively capturing how the new generation communicates and relates to one another through multimedia outlets like computers, videos, audio, text messages, MySpace, and other non-physical sources. If one were to look at it in a more cynical light, their idealized opinions of one another keep them interested, but both individuals find it easier to express themselves by channeling these feelings through another process — verbal connections and physical embraces are as foreign to them as their art is to those not in the same creative realm. As far as the film itself goes, it's a short and very low budget film, with actors that aren't professional (though not exactly amateurish either) and a somewhat narcissistic bent that is often inherent in an artistic treatment like this. When the whole film consists of two people putting themselves out there, everything they think, hope, dream, and despair about, it's not a given that the audience will find a personal connection with it, depending on their frames of reference. I think it helps to have an attraction to the need for self-expression that exists in nearly every artist, as the film is the embodiment of two artists conveying how they feel to one another through words, symbols, reflections, and technological devices. It's not an easy film to like, as it is quite pessimistic at times, but if you've ever had a relationship that has existed through mostly digital means, you may find it strikes a chord in you.

Christmas With the Romneys - The irresistible creepiness of Mitt's new home video.

The Simple Life: Cyborgs have all the luck. For the wife of a soulless android, Ann Romney seems remarkably down-to-earth. In the captivating new campaign video, "Ann Romney, Christmas 2006," she comes across as funny, honest, and refreshingly normal. So normal, in fact, you almost forget that she's narrating one of the strangest bits of campaign theater ever produced—a 13-minute behind-the-scenes look at Mitt Romney consulting his family about whether to run for president.

Breaking Down the Walls Between Mac OS X and Windows - Pogue’s Posts - Technology - New York Times Blog

I'm a bi-platform kinda guy. Not just because I need to be conversant in both Mac OS X and Windows for my job, but also because my life revolves around certain Mac programs and certain Windows programs.

On trips, I literally used to pack two laptops: a Mac for creative stuff, and a Windows machine for the speech-recognition program I use to write books, Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

A year ago, that all changed. Apple started building its Macs around Intel chips. Using Apple's free Boot Camp utility, you can start up the one laptop in either Windows or Mac OS X (Windows not included).

There's a huge problem with that, of course: the business about restarting every time you want to switch. That's time-consuming, and you can't copy and paste between Mac and Windows programs, or refer to one while you're working in the other.

One solution is a program called Parallels Desktop for Mac ($80, Parallels.com). It lets you run Windows *in a window*, right on top of Mac OS X, so you don't have to restart when you want to run a Windows program. You can copy and paste between Mac and Windows programs, and you save a lot of time. Parallels can run any version of Windows back to version 3.1 (and even DOS, Solaris and so on), and it's about 90 percent as fast as running a dedicated Windows PC.
