Owlspotting » Blog Archive » The life and death of Coca-Cola C2
Last year, when Coca-Cola launched C2, I converted. Like any consumer afraid of too much sugar, but also appaled by Diet Coke, I welcomed the mid-road beverage. I was dissapointed with the marketing campaign and the 8-cans packages that cost as much as the regular 12-cans, but I stuck with it.
Soon enough, Coca-Cola C2 became a grocery store mainstay and was packaged and priced like the regular Coke brands. A little over a month ago, I noticed C2's presence was sparse in the Brooklyn supermarket I shopped at. A new Coke, Coca Cola Zero started taking up more shelf space. The new no-calorie drink sucks; its name, Zero, is well deserved.
Now, C2 is nowhere to be found. All the Washington, D.C. supermarkets I checked don't stock it. So I did the next best thing to switching to Pepsi (against whom I have a personal grudge): I called e-mailed Coca Cola. Excerpts from their first reply is below:
Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. We are glad to hear from a fan of Coca-Cola C2 and apologize that you have had difficulty finding it in your area. Regarding availability, local bottling companies choose which brands to sell and the size of the packaging that will be available in their territories. These decisions are based on consumer demand and other market factors. We believe they are in the best position to make those decisions.
Your loyalty to Coca-Cola C2 is certainly appreciated.
That was not enough information. On the Coca-Cola Web site, C2 is no longer listed among the brands available in the U.S., which leads me to believe they're going to kill it. I called 1-800-GET-COKE and they told me it's still manufactured, but it's up to stores to order it from the local sales
center. Regarding C2's dissapearance from the Web site, the representative said: "good question. I don't know why it's not there anymore."
Naturally I called the local bottling company in Columbia, Md. They referred me to the Washington D.C. sales center, where I was told to go and complain at the grocery store, which would make them order it. But, she added, we do try to push new drinks when they come in.
"So Zero pushed C2 off the shelves?" I asked.
"Yes," she told me.
I am yet to get a final answer from Coca-Cola regarding C2, but I suspect it's dead. More evidence to suggest that is that the Coke C2 official Web site, www.cokec2.com now re-directs users to the company's main site. The Way Back Machine has only captured this as a reminder of the C2 days.
While in Brooklyn, I thought of holding on to my last C2 bottle and its metal-gray cap. I decided against it, arguing C2 will live on. It looks like I was wrong.

Mindless Eating: Brian Wansink Ph.D.
Why we eat more than we think
What does it mean to mindlessly eat?
Most of us don’t overeat because we’re hungry. We overeat because of family and friends, packages and plates, names and numbers, labels and lights, colors and candles, shapes and smells, distractions and distances, cupboards and containers.
Our studies show that the average person makes around 250 decisions about food every day – breakfast or no breakfast? Pop-tart or bagel? Part of it or all of it? Kitchen or car? Yet out of these 200+ food decisions, most we cannot really explain. Mindless Eating shows what these decisions are and how to make them work for you rather than against youhttp://www.mindlesseating.org/

What a Wonderful World
ROM - The Four Minute CrossTrainer
Why Is It So Expensive?
SURPRISINGLY 52% OF NEW CAR BUYERS WILL HAPPILY SPEND $15,000 EXTRA ON THEIR NEW CAR PURCHASE THAN WHAT THEY WOULD NEED TO GET FROM A to B. THEY WILL SPEND THIS EXTRA $15,000 EVERY 4 or 5 YEARS WHEN THEY PURCHASE A NEW CAR. THE EXTRA $15,000 BUYS THEM MAYBE LEATHER SEATS, NICE PINSTRIPING, EXTRA CUPHOLDERS, A LITTLE LARGER ENGINE AND OTHER SUCH EXTRAS THAT DO NOT GET THEM A LOT FASTER FROM A to B.
These same people ask why the ROM is so expensive. This ROM machine gets you from A to B in 4 minutes flat (never more than exactly 4 minutes per day). So a "trip" that would take people normally from fat and out of shape to fit and in shape in several months of 60 minutes per day will take only 4 minutes per day. Obviously the vast majority of people do not take that 60 minute per day boring exercise trip. They say that they don't have the time or any other such excuse (they do however sit down on the couch and watch more than 60 minutes per day of television). The fact is that people just do not have the discipline to do 60 minutes of boring exercise per day and the ones that have already lost a lot of their health from lack of exercise just do not have the energy and endurance to do 60 minutes of exercise per day. Others that never have exercised in the past 10 years have lost so much muscle that they just do not have the strength to exercise for 60 minutes per day. Many of these people ask why the ROM is so expensive and a few will take a leap of faith and rent the ROM for 30 days to make absolute certain that this 4 minute per day wonder is not a big old hoax. They all have figured out for themselves that the ROM (if it would deliver as advertised) would be the absolute least expensive way to do exercise despite its high price. An amazing 97% of the people that rent the ROM for 30 days, buy it at the end of the 30 day trial. The rental costs them nothing at all, because the full rental deposit applies to the purchase price.
So the question here should not be "Why is it so expensive?" but "What is it worth to you to get into good shape and good health and stay that way with only 4 minutes per day of ROM-exercise?" All the people that have bought a ROM machine since 1990 did think that their health and fitness were worth the price of a ROM." All the people that did not think that their health was worth the price of a ROM machine have not bought a ROM machine but millions of them have spent several times or at least $15,000 on extras when they bought their new cars. Many also have spent a lot of money on exercise equipment and health club memberships. The ROM will last several lifetimes and you need not buy a new one every 4 to 5 years. It even comes with a 5 plus 5 year parts warranty (total 10 years).
IF YOU DO THE MATH YOU FIND OUT QUICKLY THAT THE ROM IS THE ABSOLUTE LEAST EXPENSIVE EXERCISE, EVEN THOUGH THE MACHINE COSTS AS MUCH AS A SMALL CAR.
The ROM at $14,615 is less expensive per workout than any of the following:
a treadmill, free weights, a 30 minute walk outside, a visit to any health club, a workout with free weights at home, an aerobics class, you name it. Nothing is less expensive than a 4 minute highly effective workout on the ROM.

Miss Teen South Carolina vs. Bush
Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina answers a question
MIRAPEX is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of moderate to severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS)
What are the possible side effects of MIRAPEX?
Some people who take MIRAPEX can become sleepy or fall asleep while doing normal everyday activities like driving a car. It is possible that MIRAPEX treatment can cause someone to feel faint or become dizzy when standing up from a seated or prone position. There are reports of some people having hallucinations (seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, or tasting something that does not actually exist) while taking MIRAPEX. However, hallucinations are uncommon in people taking MIRAPEX for primary restless legs syndrome and occur more frequently in people over 65 taking MIRAPEX for Parkinson's disease.
There have been reports of patients taking certain medications to treat Parkinson's disease or RLS, including MIRAPEX, that have reported problems with gambling, compulsive eating, and increased sex drive. It is not possible to reliably estimate how often these behaviors occur to determine which factors may contribute to them. If you or your family members notice that you are developing unusual behaviors, talk to your doctor.
