“A$$hole!” World News

This blog is curated by Martin Kihn, author of "A$$hole: How I Got Rich & Happy By Not Giving a Damn About Anyone (and How You Can Too)." It's the harrowing chronicle of how the nicest guy in the world (i.e., me) systematically turns himself into a Grade A fuckwit and what happens to his personal and professional lives. My pain is the reader's gain.
The book a parody "based on events that happened in my life," as my carefully-worded "Author's Note" says. Let's invent the term "semoir" and apply it.
Film rights were purchased by Warner Bros./Spring Creek and it's in development, as they say. "A$$hole" is published in the US by Broadway Books/Random House and is due out April 2008. Publication in the U.K., Germany, Australia and other places happens then too.

The Smart Set is an online publication covering culture and ideas, arts and sciences, global and national affairs — everything from literature to shopping, medicine to food, philosophy to sports.

What sorts of topics is The Smart Set presently ruminating on? Transparent frogs, Soviet vacation destinations, blushes, the problems of painting, a birthday for H.L. Mencken, the state of short fiction, Japanese hobby clubs, torrid affairs in Bhutan and Polynesia, and much MUCH more!

The site updates daily, Monday through Friday, with a mix of columns and features — high quality writing and photography presented in a broad range of categories including reportage, personal and critical essays, memoirs, and stories. The Smart Set is an independent journal, generously supported by Drexel University.

Yahoo! Finds of the Year 2007

  • Click on the answer that best defines the word.
  • If you get it right, you get a harder word. If wrong, you get an easier word.
  • For each word you get right, we donate 20 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.

Who pays for the donated rice?

The rice is paid for by the advertisers whose names you see on the bottom of your vocabulary screen. This is regular advertising for these companies, but it is also something more. Through their advertising at FreeRice, these companies support both learning (free vocabulary for everyone) and reducing hunger (free rice for the hungry). We commend these companies for their participation at FreeRice.

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?

FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice―you are earning it 20 grains at a time. Here is how it works. When you play the game, advertisements appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these advertisements is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.

ShortNews - the News Community

Shortnews is a news platform and community. Its philosophy is to allow a large amount of news to be absorbed in a short time. We limit ourselves to just the core facts in our news. So you don't have to fight through pages of text to find what you want.

Welcome to! I hope you'll visit each day to experience stories that make your heart go, "ZING!"

Many people ask me how I have such a positive outlook after more than 20-years in the news business.  Simply, I believe in the adage, "Create what you seek."  I was seeking inspiration, so I decided to create a home where those stories could live.

This isn't a "happy news," site.  It is more focused than that.  I would call it "hopeful" news.  My mission and the motto of the website is to "Show the World What Is Possible!" one story at a time. has no political or religious affiliation.

I hope you'll visit regularly and share your stories of inspiration, as well.
