Osher Lifelong Learning Institute National Resource Center
Welcome to the National Resource Center website for the network of Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes (OLLI). The OLLI at the University of Southern Maine (USM) serves as the national center for the current network of 119 lifelong learning institutes throughout the nation.
The National Resource Center for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes plays a lead role in disseminating information on effective educational programming for older learners. In addition to providing information and connections via a web site, the Resource Center publishes a national research journal, plans an annual national conference, and provides a number of other ways for OLLIs to connect with one another.
The Bernard Osher Foundation designated the Osher Institute at USM as the National Resource Center for Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes in 2004. The Center is not a governance body, but is rather a center for excellence and dissemination of best practice models. Each Osher Institute reflects the culture of its own university and its learning community. The National Resource Center exists to facilitate the exchange of opinions, solutions and experiences among institutes throughout the country so that all can benefit.

Volume 1 - The Power of the Market (1990)
Dr. Friedman states, "There is not a single person in the world who can make this pencil." He explains that the creation of even a simple object - like the "lead" pencil - requires the knowledge of many people, lumberjacks, steel manufacturers, miners, etc. These people may not speak the same language, they may not know or like one another, yet the market enables them to combine knowledge and effort to produce wealth. Introduced by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Discussion with David Brooks, Wall Street Journal and James Galbraith, University of Texas.

In One Ear…
I am a geek. And that probably shows. The point of the blog is summed up in the header…I will talk about movies, comic books, TV, music, faith, politics and my take on them. I am also an artist/writer, as well as a video store employee and phone rep (the ways I pay them bills). I am based in Minnesota, where thanks to global warming, we have not had nearly as much snow as everyone else this year. GO GLOBAL WARMING!

THE RIGHT WARM-UP should do two things: loosen muscles and tendons to increase the range of motion of various joints, and literally warm up the body. When you're at rest, there's less blood flow to muscles and tendons, and they stiffen. "You need to make tissues and tendons compliant before beginning exercise," Duane Knudson says.
